not weaving,

but still fiber arts.  ;)  Since I know that many weaving people also have other fiber obsessions interests, I figured it would be okay to post this.

I crocheted two baby hats yesterday... several friends are having babies and I needed gifts!

The monkey hat... this one is so cute!  I used brown cotton, so it's soft, too.  Newborn size.

and, a little girl hat... this one's a bit larger, possibly for fall or early winter.

I'd like to make another one like this in brown, with a blue stripe and blue brim, for a boy.  Or a girl.  But no flower, this time.  For this hat, I used a pattern from one hat, the brim from another, and a flower pattern I found online.

On a weaving note... I haven't been weaving.  Still have the same scarf on my loom I had on in December.  I got burned out after weaving many hours a day from October-December.  The project on my floor loom scares me because it's a fine thread, the edges are pulling in too much, and I don't know how to fix that.  I might just keep weaving and add some sort of edging when I'm finished (a thin ribbon, perhaps?), but obviously I haven't kept weaving...

weaving break...

Now that the holiday rush is over, I'm a bit burned out on weaving.  I'll take my loom with me over Christmas holiday to weave a bit, but I don't have a compulsive need to weave every day, as often as I can.  I think that comes with the turning of fall into winter, and now that it's winter, it's board game season (another of my hobbies)!

I still have one more scarf to make for an order, but it doesn't need to be done by Christmas, so I can take my time.

After that, maybe I'll weave something for myself!  (I know, right?)  I've been wanting to make myself a black-and-white houndstooth scarf.  Or, I have plans for a valance for my kitchen.  And, there's that silver shawl I have on my yard-sale loom.  Always a project in mind.

scarves for sale!

The last of my craft shows is over for the year, so I thought I'd put some of my surplus here!  Need any Christmas presents?  :)

Camo Bamboo Scarf - $20.  These bamboo scarves are very popular because they're so soft!  Yes, from bamboo!  This one includes dark green, black, brown, white, cream, and tan.  A bit knobbly (as you can see in the second photo) because the weave is looser.  This one does show up more green than the photo lets on... think "camouflage" and you've got your colors.

5"x 78" (including fringe)

Rose Garden Bamboo Scarf - $18.  SOLD!  These bamboo scarves are very popular because they're so soft!  Yes, from bamboo!  The colors are rose, olive green, brown, and light pink.  A bit knobbly because the weave is looser.

4 3/4" x 73" (including fringe)

Wind & Waves- $23.  A clasped-weft scarf made from wool, acrylic, and cotton.  I've had people ask if this was a cityscape, forest... so, options are open.  ;)

5" x 75" (including fringe)

Log Cabin- $28.  Light grey and purple blocks intertwine in a sophisticated pattern.  This is made from very nice Harrisville wool.  Very light and warm!

5" x 67" (including twisted fringe)

Soft Fiesta Frenzy- $20.  Made of acrylics... the warp is called "Monet" and the weft is a bit feathered, but the black tones down the riot of color.

5" x 85" (including fringe... this is for those who like long scarves!)

Mango Melon- $18.  This is for those who enjoy texture!  The random boucle and 4x4 pattern make this a lively and enjoyable scarf.  Thick, stretchy, and fun!  If you look at the second picture, you can see the texture.  The first image is closer to the real color... bright!  Even that is still a bit dulled.

4 3/4" x 67" (including fringe)

Grey Tones Scarfette- $13.  SOLD! I call this a "scarfette" or "baby scarf," perfect for the vertically challenged who don't want a lot of bulk wrapped around.  Made of variegated black and white wool.

5 1/2" x 35" (including fringe)

Shipping for each scarf is $2 parcel post... $1.50 for each additional scarf, or
$4.90 each for priority mail... $4.95 for two or three scarves.

and more scarves...

I've woven 32 scarves since August 27th.  I've sold most of them, kept one, and still have a few left I can sell.  I also have three "on order" that I'll be making in the next week or two.

A log cabin scarf, all wool.

Camouflage-inspired... it turned out okay considering I was using leftover yarn, but someone liked it enough to buy it!

Clasped-weft scarf made for a friend at church…

Blue Bamboo... these are my most popular scarf... everyone loves the super-soft bamboo yarn.

And, try as I might, I can't get the next two to be right-side up!  This is another bamboo:

If you've ever seen Project Runway, you'll know why I called this my "Mondo scarf."  Houndstooth is fun to do.

whew, that's done!

I recently finished a large order... a friend had ordered four sets of table runners and napkin rings.  It took longer than expected to get them out because I was waiting for some back-ordered yarn, but they're finished and shipped!

A simple plaid look with three blues...

My first try at Log Cabin...

This one is cool... horizontal stripes on one side, vertical on the other.
A basic grey stripe with variations on yellow and gold.
Sorry, I have issues with spacing...

scarves, scarves... scarves.

My first try at leno lace... two rows on each end.  I also made another scarf similar to this, but with a purple stripe woven into the variegated yarn.

"English Garden"... stash acrylic green, 4 warps/picks at a time, with a boucle green the other 4.

Fiesta colors... I didn't like either of these yarns on their own, but together, they look great!  Again, destashing... a variegated acrylic with a feathered mostly-black yarn.
and, a close up

Red yarn with a little gold... for Christmas.  One row of double leno at one end.

Yes, it's windy here.

A very soft bamboo in camouflage colors.

Again, destashing... sunny rainbow.  One side is yellow warp, the other variegated, with the black feathered yarn as weft.  This one developed a slight wave because the yarns weren't evenly tensioned.

A "scarfette."  Had to cut this little guy off the loom because the yarn kept fraying.

Clasped weft, here we go... this one inspired by the Appalachian Mountains.

My High Tatras scarf.  I followed the profile of the tatras to make this.

I haven't posted lately because... I've been weaving

I've made eleven scarves in the past two-and-a-half weeks.  When we get some sun, I'll take pictures and post them.  I've been playing a bit with stash yarn, making some interesting combinations.

I have two craft shows coming up in the next month, so I've been preparing.  My first craft show was the Shelby County Arts Festival in Shelbyville, IN.  It went pretty well... I sold six scarves and a few smaller items.

This weekend, I'll be at the Wabash County Extension Homemakers Autumn Craft Bazaar & Bake Sale in Wabash, IN.  So, back to weaving!  I also need to print more business cards, make price tags, and get together all the little things that are needed.
